Key Stage 3

KS3 groups are taught on a half year rotation, they gain experience in design and make tasks in Product Design and Textiles. In Food they develop kitchen skills and an understanding of food provenance.

Year 7

Students will have DT lessons for roughly half the academic year.

 (10 lessons approx.) in either Product Design OR Food Technology / Textiles

The remaining time is on rotation with IT.

Introduction to food hygiene and safety, safe cutting techniques and knife skills through practical tasks such as fruit salad, gluten free scones and couscous.

 Theory work- Eatwell Guide, introduction to nutrition and food science.

Topic: Textiles (Bunting)

Bunting project- basic sewing techniques and introduction to using a sewing machine, pupils base their designs on nature.

Topic: Vacuum Forming (Chocolate Bar Mould)

Topic: Food

Improving knife skills, researching the cultural side to food by creating international dishes such as paella, spaghetti bolognaise and fajitas.

Theory work – developing knowledge of how food and drink high in sugar affect the body and increasing food science terms.

Topic: Textiles (Geometric)

Geometric project - pupils are taught basic sewing techniques, use of the sewing machine and printing techniques.

Topic: Food

Broadening of practical skills and confidence with cooking dishes independently. Pupils produce well balanced meals, creating dishes which can cater for a family such as stir fry and a basic chicken dinner.

Topic: Textiles (Tote Bag)

African print project - pupils are taught to use the sewing machine independently and to use a printing technique to produce a tote bag inspired by African prints.

  • Ofsted Chief Inspector visits Cambridgeshire secondary school to launch annual Ofsted report

    Ofsted Chief Inspector of Schools Amanda Spielman chose to visit St Peter’s School in Huntingdon to launch her first Ofsted annual report in recognition of the rapid improvements at the school.
