BTEC Nationals (Level 3) IT

This page relates to the Level 3 Specification that will be taught to new Sixth Form ICT students from 2016. For the specification being taught to Year 13 in 2016-17, please click here.

The BTEC Nationals Level 3 course is an A-Level equivalent course.

58% of work is externally assessed, with the remaining 42% being internally assessed as coursework. One of the external assessments is project-based, making the course an excellent choice for students who lack confidence in written exams.

Students completing the two-year course will receive the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology. This equates to a full A-Level.

Students who complete the first year only will received the Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Certificate in Information Technology. This equates to an AS-Level.

Year 12

Unit 3 – Using Social Media in Business (internally assessed coursework)

Unit 2 – Creating Systems to Manage Information (10 hour project-based exam).

Year 13

Unit 6 – Website development (internally assessed coursework).

Unit 1 – Information Technology Systems (written exam).
